Critical Response Event: Arming Perpetrators of Atrocities萝莉社
Since the end of World War II, the United States has provided material and political support for numerous governments that have committed atrocities, including genocide. Some historical examples include U.S. support for Indonesia (1965–1966 and 1975–1999), Pakistan (1971), Guatemala (1981–1983), and Iraq (1987–1988). More recently, the United States has armed and politically supported Saudi-led coalition members and Israel as allegations of atrocities have been levied by various intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations.
In this Critical Response Event, William Hartung, Senior Research Fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, will provide an overview of U.S. arms sales to states which are actively engaged in armed conflicts and, in some cases, accused of committing violations of international law, and what can be done about it. The Q&A will be moderated by Dr. Jeff Bachman, Cohen Endowed Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Cohen Institute Specialist.
The webinar is free and open to everyone, but advanced registration is required.
